Lighting and Similar Equipment Based on TIS Standard

By the team at Zergo November 5, 2021

Lighting and similar equipment according to the TIS 1955-2551 (2008) standard divided into 4 categories:

1) Lightings or luminaires; which covers various types such as fixed, recessed, flood, movable, mobile, adaptor, and street types, including insect killer lights

2) Separate independent auxiliaries for use with lighting equipment; such as ballasts, dimmers, light regulating devices or electronics switches, drivers, convertors, transformers and inverters

3) Lamps

4) Other lighting equipment or other accessories; including self-contained emergency luminaires, emergency power supplies, emergency exit sign luminaires, and sign lights

This standard defines the limits of radio disturbance signal (radiated and conducted), frequency range covered is 9 kHz to 400 GHz, from:

• Lighting equipment with a primary of generating and/or distributing light intended for illumination purposes, and intended either for connection to the low voltage electricity supply or for battery operation;

• Lighting part of multi-function equipment where one of the primary functions of this is illumination;

• Independent auxiliaries for use with lighting equipment;

• UV and IR radiation equipment;

• Neon advertising signs;

• Street/flood lighting intended for outdoor use;

• Transport lighting (installed in buses and trains).

What does this standard not cover?

The TIS 1955-2551 (2008) standard doesn’t apply to the followings:

o Lighting equipment operating in the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) radio bands

o Lighting equipment for aircraft and airports

o Apparatus for which the electromagnetic compatibility requirements in the radio-frequency range are explicitly formulated in other TIS or IEC or CISPR publications, for example:

1) Built-in lighting devices in other equipment, for example, scale illumination or neon devices

2) Photocopiers

3) Slide projectors

4) Lighting equipment for road vehicles
