Today You Can Become Familiar with The TIS 1195-2536 (1993)
By the team at Zergo October 11, 2021
For the reason that electronic appliances that use electrical power from the supply mains may cause harm in various ways to the user and property, the TISI has therefore set the standard for electronic appliance and related equipment that is connected to the supply mains for residential and general use that have similar characteristics only for safety under standard number: TIS 1195-2536 (1993).
The standard specifies safety requirements for electronic apparatus and related devices directly or indirectly connected to the supply mains, intended for domestic and similar general indoor use and not subject to dripping or splashing, so-called “apparatus”:
1) Radio receiving apparatus
2) Television receiving apparatus, including Digital TV and Set-Top box
3) Amplifiers or subwoofers
4) Independent load transducers and transducers
5) Motor-driven apparatus which comprise one or more of the above-mentioned apparatus, or can be used only in combination with one or more of them, such as radio-gramophones and tape recorders
6) Other apparatus obviously provided to be used in combination with the above-mentioned apparatus, such as antenna amplifiers, supply apparatus, battery eliminators, cable-connected remote control devices
7) Electronic musical instruments such as organs, pianos, and including music synthesizer
8) Electronic accessories such as rhythm generators, self-contained tone generators, music tuners and the like for use with electronic or non-electronic musical instruments
This standard doesn’t cover electronic appliances where are designed for use in public and professional works, for example:
o Hotel works
o Meeting rooms
o General public relation works, such as shopping malls, airports
o Concerts
o Sound recording rooms
o Television stations
What is the full name of this standard, again?
TIS 1195-2536 (1993): Mains Operated Electronic and Related Apparatus for Household and Similar General Use: Safety Requirements.
If my product is a Hi-End model, is there another way to get certified under this standard?
Yes, there is. The Hi-End products according to the TIS 1195-2536 standard are able to apply for a specific permit from the TISI.
What is the label requirement?
The necessary information to have on the label will be as follow:
1. Name of manufacturer or factory, or registered trademark
2. Model number or name
3. Serial number
4. Country of origin
5. Nature of supply
6. Rated supply voltage or range of the supply voltages (V)
7. Rate mains frequency or range of frequencies (Hz)
8. Apparatus which can be set to different rated supply voltages must be so constructed that the indication of the voltage to which the apparatus is set is discernible on the apparatus when ready for use. If the apparatus is so constructed that the user can alter the supply voltage setting the action of changing the setting must change also the indication.
9. For mains powered apparatus which can also be powered by batteries, the instructions for use shall state that ‘the apparatus must not be exposed to dripping or splashing’.
What other important things should I be advised about?
Here’s something that matters:
o Plugs and sockets
Plugs and appliance connectors for the connection of the apparatus to the supply main and socket-outlets for providing mains power to other apparatus have to comply with the relevant specifications for plugs and socket-outlets and for appliance connectors. A device provided with pins intended to be introduced into fixed socket-outlets must not impose undue strain on these socket-outlets. The device has to comply with specified in TIS 166 for the dimensions of main plugs.
o External flexible cords
In case the main supply of flexible cords is polyvinyl chloride insulated cable, they have to comply with TIS 11: PVC insulated cables and flexible cords. If the main supply of flexible cords is rubber insulated cables, they have to comply with IEC 245.
